Lyrics with meaning My first concert was Janet Jackson in the early 2000's. I don't limit the music I listen to based on genre, rather what the music says. Lyrics should be something filled with meaning; whether it be a personal connection I hold to what is being said, or just being able to feel the emotion the artist is putting into the work. Music that speaks to the indifference and struggles that many are forced to endure moves me more than anything. Metallica has been my favorite band since birth. I grew up with rock being the only acceptable music, rap was out of the question. As I got older, I found that I could understand the message some rappers were trying to send. Tupac is possibly the biggest influence as to why I started writing my own thoughts down. I'm from Kansas City, MO so the local rappers are what I usually listen to. Not much country hits me the way I think music should, there are songs I like very much but not many artists.
