music underlies narrative for me. i use a vast array of playlists while reading anything from pulp adventure to sf, fantasy and horror. my favorite composers are jerry goldsmith, bernard herrmann, christopher young, elliot goldenthal, miklos rozsa... i listen to dozens of composers on a regular basis. and there is a lot of library music, some of which is familiar from tv and various films - mostly by little known composers.
currently, i am using an oz playlist made up of orchestral cues from the wizard of oz, troll, return to oz and gormenghast while i read the next book in the oz series.
i have also used a lot of film music to score tabletop rpgs.
