For me, the HOF really lost it's way when they inducted Michael Jackson in 2001, but I still had hopes they would get their heads out of their butts. Unfortunately, they inducted Grandmaster Flash this year. Yep, a RAPPER! Not only that, there are reports that GMF got less votes than the Dave Clark Five, but one of the directors of the HOF felt they couldn't go another year without a rapper, so ignored the vote! This is truly outrageous. Bands that are truly deserving are missed every year, groups like KISS, Alice Cooper, Blue Oyster Cult, and so many others. Bands that were different and very influential. Yet, Grandmaster Flash makes it in. I can only hope that, someday, VH1 actually has a Rock Honors museum, honoring only real rock & roll performers like they did this past year. I don't think the HOF can ever gain any respect ever again.

Well, I hate to be contradicting (espcially to a year-old post) but there's not much to reply to on here anyways...
I just don't think honoring someone who isn't "rock" is such a terrible thing. It's kind of a shame that some people (not neccessarily you or anyone in particular) can get holed into only liking one particular genre and refuse to acknowledge the talent/accomplishments/etc of anyone outside of that genre. Something as big as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame honoring someone outside of "rock music" might be a nice nudge to people like that. And I think they were right to realize they needed a hip hop act in there, I mean listen to the radio. It's a huge part of our culture. (And therefore has at least some amount of influence on all sorts of music.)
P.S.-I just read that Leonard Cohen was inducted this year, surely that wins them some brownie points? (It does to me, at least.)
P.P.S.- Dude, wasn't KISS just a massive marketing scheme?
